Course Description

Who Should Attend:

DRS directors, assistant directors, and managers

Overview and Focus:

The focus of the course is on how understanding behavioral styles, applying communication skills, and coaching employees can contribute to a more productive workplace.

Participants will learn about the various factors that influence behavior and will assess their own behavioral preferences in the work environment. Participants will explore the characteristics of each of the four behavioral styles, the impact of style differences in the workplace, and the importance of meeting the needs of others.

Participants will learn how two-way communication, verbal and nonverbal communication, and listening skills can be used to develop effective work relationships.

Participants will learn the fundamental skills necessary to manage the performance of their employees. Participants will identify their employees’ strengths and areas for improvement using the seven-step coaching process and will plan a coaching meeting to address a DRS-specific coaching issue.

Course Level

400 Level These courses focus on enhancing the capability of directors, managers and supervisors to manage key organizational processes that drive performance improvement strategies. The courses address various methods for analyzing comparative performance data. Participants examine performance gaps/problems, determine root causes, and develop potential solutions. Additionally, the courses include case studies and experiential learning activities designed for upper level management. These courses vary in length from one to three days and are designed for experienced child support enforcement officers, supervisors, managers, and directors; however, directors may also elect to send "selected" highly experienced, responsible staff.
